After 2 days' thinking about the details and did some sketch. I'm afraid ican't do a well work on "proto-type house", since i can't got anyinteresting and exciting ideas on it anymore. I think I can't do aarchitectural and satisfied work on it. This situation always made me sad.

So I want to focous on the ideas "microwave power station","storage of theenergy" and "microwave show". I want rebuild a new virtual work(a group ofdevice) to harvest the energy of microwave and transform them to theelectricity, then it will be stored in the "bus stop" which can spply thepower to the bus and house beside it.

I have already do some device to mimic the microwave(door device andmoving groud). I want let them be a new landscape and also a kind of toyfor people.They will have fun with those device. The device will besetting with "microwave power station" together. I want make the site toa "microwave park".I think it will be a amazing leisure place for people.

The project is creating a physical model to mimic the invisible change of the microwave radiation. We cannot see the microwave radiation and also cannot feel it. But this microwave radiation is harmful for people and the radiation is a kind of energy. It is bad for people who lived beside the site since they do not know what time is good for take a walk on the site. Thus, I want creating a physical model which can use the architectural movement and style to describe the microwave radiation like the intensity, the main trend direction of radiation. The arrowhead shows the main trend direction of radiation. The unit of intensity of radiation is w/cm2 which means the quantity of energy across 1 cm2 speace. In this project the relative movement between frame and arrowhead part will shows the intensity of of radiation at that time. In additional, it also can receive the energy of radiation for the movement.This is three main function.

This device shoud be set on the main trend route of microwave radiation. In order to kown this information, I pick some point in the site and measure the data and record the value by day. Acording these value, I connect the same value point togother and draw the contour line of radiation like a map. All the wave crest and the trough shows the main trend of radiation.

THE BIOMORPHIC MANUFACTORY FOR THE HABITATS OF HYBRID ECOLOGIES

What
Last term I did a sample project which is a network in the forest. It is not all of my idea. In this term, the project will be going forward. Actually, my aim is creating a biomorphic manufactory which includes the different function device parts like power, producer and storage. This manufactory will be used to improve the environment situation in the site and offer the better habitats for animals and plants like supply the food to the birds and improve the nutrition of the soils. The site I chose is in east of London-- the Ripple Nature Reserve. This area is a industrial area, and there are a very large power station-- Barking Power Station—beside the set. The site was used for a dumping area for pulverized fuel ash, but now the nature reclaim industrial wasteland. The entire devices of manufactory were made by metal, glass, rubber and some compound. It will work automatic.

Why
First of all, I am very interested in biomorphic mechanical device. Like last term I create a little device which like a plant, but not very successful. So this term I make a more believable and general project. Actually, It is clear to comprehend that the species in the world are all the especial machines, and they are on a unique way of evolution. Thus I want find the possibility of another way of development. Secondly, the architecture in the nature is an exciting event for people. The whole nature is complicated system, people can discover many architectural information in the nature, and also crate the new natural biologic architecture. Like the picture drawing by Yves Tanguy (1900-1955) who is crate a fantastic mechanical biology figure. Finally, the human activities always have the bad effect for animals and plants. It will have a significant impact for the society if people can change this situation.

How
There is a big electric transformer substation and Microwave Station near the set. When it works, it will set off the stronger microwave radiation which is harmful for animals. All the set will be covered by this radiation, but the levels of the intensity are different, which means the area closer to the transformer substation has a high level of microwave radiation. So I draw a picture to describe the change of the microwave radiation intensity in this area based on some measure. It is very clear to show in the southeast and northeast zone have higher intensity, thus, the energy collection device are setting here for receive the radiation for energy.

The forest is a very complicated system, it supply the material for life to the many species. There are marshes, trees and water in this area and the soils is more fertile than other zones. Thus, the “reactor” devices are setting here, it can absorb the abundant material like water, organic compound, ion and CO2, then compose them to carbohydrate and other compound. And these materials can be store in the “storage” device, which also can store the energy collected by “receiver” device.

In the open zone, the dumping of fuel ash has created a soil that is very alkaline. This means that many plant species that can tolerate the soils of The Ripple struggle to grow elsewhere locally. But it is a long term to reduce the content of alkaline in the soils by nature. The “cleaner” devices are direct setting on the soils in this open area. It can make this process faster by produce the weak acidic organic compound.

The northwest zone is also forest area. In the other aspect, the intensity of microwave radiation is the lowest in the site, which is less harmful for animals. So this zone can be used for the habitats for animals. After some observe and research, the main species in the site are some birds: Partridge, Magpie, goldfinch; bees and butterflies. Thus, it is helpful to set the “birds’ nest” and “honeycomb” device which can offer the comfort environment and food for infancy animal.

After that I draw a picture to describe the change of the microwave radiation intensity in this area. The section which is close to yellow have the higher intensity. The unit for microwave radiation intensity is mW/cm2. The picture show the change of intensity from 0.01mW/cm2 to 0.9mW/cm2, so every section represent about 0.1mW/cm2.

So, from this, I make a plan for disposal of my project.

Definition

As we know, Microwaves are electromagnetic waves with wavelengths ranging from 1 mm to 1 m, or frequencies between 0.3 GHz and 300 GHz.

Apparatus and techniques may be described qualitatively as "microwave" when the wavelengths of signals are roughly the same as the dimensions of the equipment, so that lumped-element circuit theory is inaccurate. As a consequence, practical microwave technique tends to move away from the discrete resistors, capacitors, and inductors used with lower frequency radio waves. Open-wire and coaxial transmission lines give way to waveguides, and lumped-element tuned circuits are replaced by cavity resonators or resonant lines. Effects of reflection, polarization, scattering, diffraction, and atmospheric absorption usually associated with visible light are of practical significance in the study of microwave propagation. The same equations of electromagnetic theory apply at all frequencies.

While the name may suggest a micrometer wavelength, it is better understood as indicating wavelengths very much smaller than those used in radio broadcasting. The boundaries between far infrared light, terahertz radiation, microwaves, and ultra-high-frequency radio waves are fairly arbitrary and are used variously between different fields of study. The term microwave generally refers to "alternating current signals with frequencies between 0.3 GHz (3×108 Hz) and 300 GHz (3×1011 Hz)." Both IEC standard 60050 and IEEE standard 100 define "microwave" frequencies starting at 1 GHz (30 cm wavelength).

Electromagnetic waves longer (lower frequency) than microwaves are called "radio waves". Electromagnetic radiation with shorter wavelengths may be called "millimeter waves", terahertz radiation or even T-rays. Definitions differ for millimeter wave band, which the IEEE defines as 110 GHz to 300 GHz.

Microwave power transmission

Microwave power transmission (MPT) is the use of microwaves to transmit power through outer space or the atmosphere without the need for wires. It is a sub-type of the more general wireless energy transfer methods, and is the most interesting because microwave devices offer the highest efficiency of conversion between DC-electricity and microwave radiative power.

Following World War II, which saw the development of high-power microwave emitters known as cavity magnetrons, the idea of using microwaves to transmit power was researched. In 1964, William C. Brown demonstrated a miniature helicopter equipped with a combination antenna and rectifier device called a rectenna. The rectenna converted microwave power into electricity, allowing the helicopter to fly[1]. In principle, the rectenna is capable of very high conversion efficiencies - over 90% in optimal circumstances.

Most proposed MPT systems now usually include a phased array microwave transmitter. While these have lower efficiency levels they have the advantage of being electrically steered using no moving parts, and are easier to scale to the necessary levels that a practical MPT system requires.

Using microwave power transmission to deliver electricity to communities without having to build cable-based infrastructure is being studied at Grand Bassin on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean.

Last term is not very satisfactory. I do not express my idea very well, but in this term, I will try to change the deteriorating situation.

The Aim

Last term I did a sample project which is a network in the forest. It is not all of my idea. In this term, the project will be going forward. Actually, I want create a biologic factory which can grow by himself. The sample network changes to a complicated system. This change based on the evolution of individual device (the “flower”) in the network. All this process like the growing plant -- every same cell in the seed grow to the different part and function—leafage, base, branch—after the different activities.

The Set

The set I chose is in east of London-- The Ripple Nature Reserve. This area is a industrial area, and there are a very large power station-- Barking Power Station—beside the set. Set among the industrial landscape of Barking Riverside and once a dumping area for pulverized fuel ash, The Ripple provides a fascinating example of how nature can reclaim industrial wasteland. The dumping of fuel ash has created a soil that is very alkaline and therefore different to most soils in London (they are mostly acidic). This means that many plant species that can tolerate the soils of The Ripple struggle to grow elsewhere locally.

The Ideas

The set is a fantastic place for my project. There is a big electric transformer substation and Microwave Station near the set. When it works, it will set off the stronger microwave radiation. All the set will be covered by this radiation, but the levels of the intensity are different, which means the area closer to the transformer substation has a high level of microwave radiation. It is one of the outside environment effects for the “network”. The device (the “flower”) in high level area will activate by this situation, and grow to a “protector” which like a protect wall to reduce the level of intensity behind it. In additional, microwave radiation is a type of energy, so the other device (the “flower”) grows to the “receiver” which can receive the radiation for energy. And also the device (the “flower”) on the land activates by the high level of alkaline in the soil, and grows to a neutralization device. There are many other kind of direction of growing, like to a “reactor” which is only used for compose the organic compound, “storage” for store the energy and organic compound. Finally the device (the “flower”) will grow to some habitat for animal, like the birds nest or honeycomb. It will form a self-growing biologic factory system.

Controllable Inerratic Network in Specific Ecosystems

Ecosystem is a gigantic and complicated system, it is imporssible to be controlled by human being, and there are plenty of kinds biologic network systems in it. The human is a elments of the whole ecosystem, but we want be a protagonist in this process. Although it is embarrass to deal the relationship among every aspect. However, in some small-scale biosphere like forest or swamp, I think we can establish a new network inside the biosphere. I will use some mechanical device to make this system, but it will grow like the biology. The whole network is controllable . If it can join the biosphere, it can transform the indirect relationship between every element in biosphere to the direct relationship.

Two Networks
There are two networks in this picture, one is the natural network, this is complicated but regular, and every tree in the has a indirect relationship. The other network is what I made. I want use this network to make each tree become a terminal like the nerve cell in the brain.

This picture show the terminal in last network. The trees will be rebuild by the "biologic terminal device", and make the trees more sensitive to the outside environment. It is achieve by the "bine" which connect all of the device. The event which inspired Yves Tanguy (1900-1955) to suddenly become an artist may seem the stuff of Hollywood fiction, but is true nonetheless: in 1923 he leapt off a bus to examine two strange paintings that had caught his eye in a passing gallery window. They were by Giorgio de Chirico, and the gallery, operated by Paul Guillaume, was the same in which Surrealist impresario and theoretician André Breton discovered the art of de Chirico several years earlier. Although Tanguy was entirely untrained as an artist, and didn't begin to paint until after his encounter with the de Chirico paintings, he quickly developed a wholly original visual language and style that would place him in the foremost rank of the Surrealist movement.

Tanguy's entry into the Surrealist group came as the result of a confluence of his personal qualities and external circumstances. To begin with, Tanguy's personality was already predisposed to a love of the absurd. He stated in an interview that `about 1924 I came across the first issue of La Revue Surréaliste and I became very much interested in it. No so much in the paintings reproduced in it as in the general spirit of its contents.'Sir Roland Penrose has related that Tanguy, during military service, would often delight in shocking others by eating his own socks at the mess table or relishing spiders, soaked in wine, on a slice of bread a practice that apparently didn't en in later years. Having completed his service, Tanguy returned to Paris in 1922 and was reunited with an old friend, the poet Jacques Prévert. Joined by Maurice Duhamel, the men took an apartment in Montparnasse that would become a hub of Surrrealist activity. IN 1925, Tanguy met Breton through mutual friends; the two discovered they held similar philosophical and aesthetic views, and Breton became an immediate champion of he promising young artist.

Breton first reproduced Tanguy's paintings and drawings in the 15 June 1926 issue of his La Revue Surréaliste; he was thereafter recognized as one of the `official' Surrealist artists. These early paintings show bizarre, incongruous images with a deliberate disregard for conventional style and compositions. A supernatural mood was already emerging, with murky backgrounds and flashes of light permeating the composition. These early works reflect the stylistic influence of André Masson, Max Ernst and Joan Miro (who was a frequent visitor to the Montparnasse apartment), as well as intellectual ideas culled from Tanguy's studies in metaphysics, psychiatry, and alchemy. Some of these early oils reveal the initial emergence of motifs such as the `weblike' tightropes and amorphous `anemone-like bodies that would appear in more simplified form in Tanguy's later, less literal compositions.

By 1927, the year of his first one-man exhibition at the Galerie Surréalste in Paris, Tanguy's mature style had emerged, one that would change little over the course of successive decades. According to James Thrall Soby, Tanguy `sometimes talked irritatedly of painters who felt obiged to evolve a new approach every few years, as a means of freshening their own and the public's interest in the work. Once he had found his direction and he fount it with startling abruptness he followed it with devotion and purity, secret I his quest and oblivious of he pressures of fashion and commerce".Certainly one can detect a progression however relaxed in the course of his work, including he evolution of his forms and a refinement of his palette over his 30 year career, but the overriding autograph throughout his oeuvre is unmistakable. Indeed, he once admitted that `here in the United states the only change I can distinguish in my work is possibly in my palette:.The aesthetic for which Tanguy became known depicts indefinable `inhabitants; of an otherworldly place, rendered in a meticulously detailed style. The objects seem real, yet we known them to be non-existent; they bridge the line between the abstract and figurative. The compositions regularly defy gravity and conventional rules of perspective. Most striking about these forms is that, in true Surrealist fashion, they seem at once familiar yet completely unidentifiable.

The evocation of landscape is the overriding constant in Tanguy's art. It is, according to Penrose, the aspect that granted Tanguy a unique place among the Surrealist painters, and influenced Dali an artist with full academic credentials to treat his trompe l'oeil landscapes in a similar way, although, Penrose notes, with Tanguy the atmospheric depths are more variable, more subtle and more profound. Tanguy's pictures possess only one familiar reference point the horizon in which to relate them to landscape in a traditional sense. Yet the horizon sometimes appears as a hard dividing line, or it can melt away altogether.

Regardless of the particular `inhabitants' of his pictures, the consistent element in Tanguy's technique is his `dual manipulation of perspective, from far to near and from high to low. Naturally, conventional perspective presupposes both depth and height, but perhaps no other modern painter has so insistently dramatized an opposition between these two dimensions.Indeed, it is Tanguy's extreme manipulation of space which imparts such a disquieting mood to the works.

After his trip to Africa in 1930, Tanguy briefly experimented with underdrawing as a preliminary step in his paintings. He quickly abandoned the technique, he said for `I found that if I planned a picture beforehand, it never surprised me, and surprises are my pleasure in painting." What most interested Tanguy was the unpredictable procession of motifs, each suggested by and playing upon the one before, both metaphorically as well as visually. This focus on spontaneous relationships was a hallmark of Surrealist creativity; but also found expression in the exercise of `automatic writing' which all of the Surrealists practiced in one form or another.
